Our first annual September Golf for GOLD tournament to raise funds and awareness for children with cancer in the Texas Coastal Bend.
This Inaugural Golf for Gold Scramble is being held at the beautiful Northshore Country Club Golf Course with stunning ocean views and to benefit children battling cancer in the Texas Coastal Bend and beyond.
Brooke's Blossoming Hope for Childhood Cancer is a 501(c)3 NonProfit Organization whose Board Members and Volunteers are united in their belief that ALL children battling cancer:
- Deserve the chance for cures to be found and funded.
- Always appreciate smiles no matter where they are.
- Need OUR help to make changes for the better.
Our 100% volunteer led foundation has sent nearly 95,000 care packages around the globe (53 countries!) to help kids cope with their hair loss created by current harsh treatments. Additionally hope has been raised through our efforts to give over $300,000 to fund promising research initiatives specifically for babies, kids, and teens with cancer.
Up until her shocking diagnosis with cancer in November 2010, Brooke Hester was a regular, happy, healthy little girl. Her battle with stage IV neuroblastoma cancer led her down a path of hope to find cures through spreading smiles and funding research specifically targeting childhood cancer. After nearly five years of battling cancer, we said goodbye to our sweet Brooke, but she did not leave this earth without leaving her joyous mark and tenacious legacy. Brooke gave everything she had to do everything she could to help other children like her.
Pediatric cancer is the #1 killer of our children as compared to other diseases like diabetes, asthma, malaria, and others combined.
The problem is funding, or rather lack of. Large cancer organizations in America give literally fractions of pennies and our federal government gives a little less than 4 pennies per dollar to fund pediatric cancer research. Big Pharma - or drug companies - give huge amounts of money to fund clinical trials for cancer patients and yet, are unmotivated to do as much for children because they are a young population that is not as "marketable or profitable" as adults.
WE MUST BE THE VOICE FOR OUR CHILDREN.
Cancer does not discriminate. Brooke was a seemingly happy, healthy, normal three year old girl picking flowers with bouncing curls in the wind, when suddenly one day she started to limp.
It is time for change.
